Disney Plus’s upcoming blockbuster series Tempest, starring superstars Jun Ji Hyun and Kang Dong Won, is one of the most anticipated K-dramas of the year. However, its latest poster has gone viral for its surprisingly “tacky” and dated design.
Shortly after the promotional poster was revealed on Thursday, comments flooded popular Korean online communities. Fans and potential viewers quickly mocked the aesthetic, which features the two leads in a dramatic pose against a stark background.
Instead of building hype, the design has been widely ridiculed. “So cheesy,” one user wrote. Another added, “Looks so tacky. The aesthetics are just…”
The poster’s design drew immediate and unflattering comparisons to older dramas, leaving many to question the creative direction. “Is that… Sandglass?” one popular comment asked, referencing the iconic 1995 drama known for its distinct 90s aesthetic. Others were even more pointed, asking, “Is the drama set in the ’90s…?” Some netizens even compared it to Jun Ji Hyun’s previous drama, Jirisan, which also faced criticism for its sometimes awkward visuals.

Despite the negative talk surrounding the poster, excitement for the series itself remains high. Tempest is a historical thriller that follows the story of a former slave turned diplomat (Jun Ji Hyun) and a mysterious military official (Kang Dong Won) as they navigate a world of political intrigue. The series is expected to premiere later this year.
