The Japanese romance film Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight, which rewrote box office history for Japanese romance movies in Korea, is getting a Korean remake.

Based on the best-selling novel by Misaki Ichijo, the story follows the tender, fleeting love between a cheerful girl with anterograde amnesia—resetting her memories every time she sleeps—and a boy leading an emotionally numb, uneventful life.

Rising star Choo Young Woo, best known for his steady small-screen performances in The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call and Head Over Heels, has been cast as the male lead, Kim Jae Won—a student drifting aimlessly through life until an encounter with Han Seo Yoon changes his world.

This marks Choo’s first foray into film, and he shared his excitement: “I really loved the original novel and film, so I immediately wanted to be part of this project. I’ve had high expectations since I got the offer and plan to give it my all.”

Opposite him is Shin Sia, the star of the film The Old Woman With The Knife and the recently-concluded hit series Resident Playbook, will portray Han Seo Yoon. She’s a bright, mischievous girl determined to live joyfully despite her condition.

“As a longtime fan of the novel, I’m thrilled and honored to bring this character to life,” the actress said. “I’ll give it my best so that the warmth of this story reaches every audience member.”

The film is backed by BY4M Studio, known for hits like The Firefighters and The Match, with production by Blue Fire Studio, a video production subsidiary of REDICE Studio—the creative force behind webtoon juggernauts Solo Leveling and Omniscient Reader. Directing is Kim Hye Young, whose debut feature It’s Okay! earned acclaim from critics and audiences alike.

Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight begins filming July 5th and is aiming for a 2025 theatrical release.
