Korea’s animated feature The King of Kings, which has already crossed 60 million USD at the North American box office, is set for its domestic theatrical release this July—and it’s bringing with it a powerhouse Korean dub lineup.
Netflix confirmed that the Korean-language version will feature Lee Byung Hun, Jin Sun Kyu, Lee Ha Nee, Yang Dong Geun, Cha In Pyo, Kwon Oh Joong, Jang Gwang, and voice actor Choi Ha Ri in major roles.
Set in motion for a July release, The King of Kings follows British literary giant Charles Dickens as he embarks on a journey into the greatest story ever told—alongside his youngest son Walter.
Lee Byung Hun lends his voice to the role of Charles Dickens, bringing depth and gravitas to the famed author as he narrates a tale from 2,000 years ago. Taking on the pivotal role of Jesus is Jin Sun Kyu, who is expected to deliver a nuanced performance capturing both the strength and gentle humanity of the figure—from birth to resurrection.
Lee Ha Nee plays dual roles as Dickens’s wife Catherine and also as Mary, the mother of Jesus. She’ll play a nurturing mother who guides and protects her family, all the while simultaneously demonstrating her versatility as Mary. Yang Dong Geun will voice Peter, portraying the emotional tension between steadfast faith and personal conflict with grounded sincerity.
Cha In Pyo takes on the role of Pontius Pilate, the powerful figure who sentences Jesus to death, bringing a heavy, authoritative tone to the character. Kwon Oh Joong joins as King Herod, torn between fear and desire, while Jang Gwang plays the high priest, adding tension as a figure trapped in obsession and religious authority.
Voice actor Choi Ha Ri, known for her role as Mitsuri Kanroji in the Korean dub of Demon Slayer, voices Dickens’s youngest son Walter. She was selected through a highly competitive open audition—beating 500 other hopefuls for the part.
Director Jang Sung Ho shared his excitement: “It’s been an honor to work with such an incredible cast. With the strength of the original story and the emotional depth these actors bring, I’m confident Korean audiences will feel the full impact of this powerful film.”
