The family of the late Kim Sae Ron has openly called for apologies from Kim Soo Hyun, his agency and YouTuber Lee Jin Ho.
Garo Sero Research Institute, also known as HoverLab Inc., shared a statement on behalf of Kim Sae Ron’s family during a live broadcast. This statement followed official statements from Kim Soo Hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, released on March 14th and 15th.
In their statement, the family outlined their specific demands: a formal apology from Kim Soo Hyun for his relationship with Kim Sae Ron during her minor years; an apology from Gold Medalist for claiming the two had not been involved in the past three years, as well as for their statement, made just three days earlier, that no relationship had ever existed; acknowledgment and an apology for Kim Sae Ron’s contributions as a founding member of the company; and an apology for the demand that she repay 700 million won.
The family explained, “We left Kim Soo Hyun out of our earlier statement because we wanted to focus on calling out Lee Jin Ho and the cyberbullying.” They emphasized, “All we’re asking for is an official apology from Kim Soo Hyun and his agency—nothing more.”
During the broadcast, Garo Sero Research Institute also released a photo that seems to show a man, believed to be Kim Soo Hyun, washing dishes with his lower body exposed.
Initially, Garo Sero Research Institute had announced plans to release private pictures of Kim Soo Hyun but reconsidered after Gold Medalist expressed concerns regarding his mental well-being. On March 14th, the host of the YouTube channel explained, “Kim Sae Ron’s mother became alarmed that Kim Soo Hyun might harm himself, and his family shares similar concerns,” citing this as the reason for their initial decision to withhold the images.
However, they eventually released the anticipated photos on March 15th. Addressing this move, Kim Sae Ron’s family explained, “We felt we had no option but to share the photos to set the record straight and prove Lee Jin Ho wrong.” They also announced plans to file a police complaint against Lee Jin Ho the following week and demanded a public apology from him.
Last year, Kim Soo Hyun’s side denied the dating rumors between him and Kim Sae Ron. However, they acknowledged the relationship in the official statement released on March 14th, limiting its timeframe to “from the summer of 2019 until the fall of 2020.” This period was after Kim Sae Ron had reached adulthood.
On the 15th, the agency expressed concern, stating, “We believe it’s inappropriate to hash out disputes in public, as this doesn’t reflect what the mother, who’s trying everything to defend the deceased’s honor, or the deceased would want.” They indicated that they would wait for contact from the family. On the other hand, Kim Sae Ron’s family steadfastly claims that the relationship lasted six years, beginning in 2015 when Kim Sae Ron was 15 years old, and they are demanding acknowledgment and an apology regarding the duration of the relationship.
