K-pop band FT Island will be operating with a split lineup strategy, performing as a duo domestically while maintaining their original three-member lineup internationally.

According to Herald POP’s report on the 3rd, FT Island will perform as a two-member group with Lee Hong Gi and Lee Jae Jin in South Korea, while Choi Min Hwan joins them for activities abroad.

Lee Hong Gi recently expressed his thoughts on this decision during his “HONGGI B-DAY PARTY ‘XXX'” held on the 2nd. Regarding the decision to perform as two members domestically and three internationally, he stated, “There are many people here who aren’t warmed up to the idea, and although that’s a difference in individual opinion, I think we need to respect that. We will make him reflect more. Eventually, we hope to return as a three-member group in Korea as well.”

He continued, “FT Island needs a good drummer. I feel very sorry for causing unnecessary worry. Late last year was really a huge crisis, but thanks to you, I think we were able to overcome it well. I won’t talk about this anymore to you all. The next judgment is up to you. I’m really sorry, but I still hope you’ll stick with us. We will give our all.”

Previously in October last year, Choi Min Hwan became embroiled in prostitution allegations following accusations from his ex-wife Yulhee. At that time, FNC Entertainment announced, “After in-depth discussions regarding FT Island’s future activities, we have decided to temporarily continue activities as a two-member system (Lee Hong Gi, Lee Jae Jin).”

In December last year, police decided not to refer the case to prosecution citing insufficient evidence. Following this, the drummer shared, “I sincerely apologize to the fans and members. I will do my best to show a more responsible and mature side of myself.”
