Han Seung Yeon is making waves with her daring transformation in TVING’s new original series The Scandal of Chunhwa, alongside co-star Kim Taek.
The former K-pop idol takes on the role of Ji Won, a well-bred noblewoman who, despite her perfect credentials in beauty, education, and character, finds herself navigating the unfamiliar waters of romance.
In the series premiere released on the 6th, Ji Won leads a band of women to confront her betrothed, Lee Yeol (Kim Taek), after learning he visited a courtesan house to lose his virginity before their wedding. The scene showcases Ji Won’s endearing romantic inexperience as she can only manage silent, reproachful glances at her intended, setting up anticipation for their romantic journey ahead.
In a pivotal moment, Ji Won confronts Lee Yeol about their long-standing engagement. “This is my marriage, yet why does no one ask how I feel about it? It’s just strange and infuriating,” she declares, with Han delivering the lines with restrained emotion and quiet determination.
Han masterfully portrays Ji Won’s duality—a refined noblewoman who enjoys artistic gatherings with fellow aristocratic ladies, while also embodying a forthright personality who tackles conflicts head-on. In a particularly bold wedding night scene with Lee Yeol, she asserts, “I want to have my husband’s first night for myself,” showcasing the character’s unexpected assertiveness.
The Scandal of Chunhwa releases new episodes every Thursday at noon KST on TVING.
