Lee Dong Gun shared an emotional moment with his parents on SBS’s My Little Old Boy, unveiling an AI-generated photo of his younger brother who passed away 17 years ago in Australia.

During the February 2nd broadcast, Lee embarked on a family trip to Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, where memories of his late brother, who died in an accident while studying abroad, came flooding back. “This is the only vacation spot we visited with Jun Yeop,” Lee reminisced during the car ride, referring to his brother who was eight years his junior.

The gravity of the moment peaked during dinner when Lee presented his parents with a framed photo—an AI-generated image showing what his brother, who passed at 20, might have looked like at 37. “This is how Jun Yeop might have looked if he were alive,” Lee explained.

In a raw moment of vulnerability, Lee’s father opened up about his regrets. “He hated me. Our relationship became distant because I broke his computer several times when he was supposed to be studying but was gaming instead,” he shared. “You were pursuing your path as an entertainer, and I had hopes that at least Jun Yeop would focus on his studies,” adding poignantly, “I wish I had just let him game all his life.”

The father continued, “For ten years after losing Jun Yeop, I never forgot him for a moment. I felt like he was gone because of me. I lived ten years, blaming myself,” he revealed. “After about ten years, I realized I still hadn’t let him go. So I thought, ‘Let me send him off now. Let me stop holding onto him.'”

Lee’s mother shared her own struggle with grief, disclosing, “After losing Jun Yeop, much of my memory disappeared. There are many stories I don’t remember at all. I actually don’t remember anything about the Hongcheon trip.”
