Claudia Kim recently opened up about her striking red carpet appearance at the Busan International Film Festival and the story behind her eye-catching dress. In an interview for the new film A Normal Family, Kim reflected on the festival and her memorable outfit.
A Normal Family is a suspense drama centered around two families whose lives are upended when they discover CCTV footage of their children committing a crime. Based on Herman Koch’s novel The Dinner, Kim plays Ji Soo, the wife of Jae Wan (Sul Kyung Gu), who has lost his first wife.
The film was invited to the 29th BIFF under the “Korean Cinema Today: Special Premiere” section, marking Kim’s return to the festival after a decade. She walked the red carpet wearing a stunning Chanel silk satin pleated gown, which featured a plunging V-neck. The dress, reportedly priced at $34,000, quickly became the talk of the night.
Reflecting on the festival, Kim shared, “It was great. I’ve been to the BIFF before, just to hang out and see people, but this was my first time officially on the red carpet in 10 years. It felt good to be surrounded by familiar faces, and you could tell everyone had the same hope for the success of Korean cinema. Being among filmmakers made me feel proud.”
Kim, who recently announced her divorce from businessman Cha Min Geun after five years of marriage, also spoke about her daughter’s influence on her red carpet look. “My 4-year-old daughter thought the dress was beautiful,” Kim revealed, adding that she took her daughter along to the fitting. “The dress had been saved on my phone ever since it came out in the collection. When it was included in the two options Chanel offered me, I felt like this one was meant to be. I hadn’t even tried it on yet, but I knew I wanted to wear it. The bold look wasn’t intentional—it just felt like fate. ”
When asked about her approach to motherhood, Kim described herself as a “friend-like mom.” She added, “My daughter talks really well for her age and knows what I do for work. She’s even watched a few scenes I’ve been in and has visited me while I was preparing for roles. I try to share things with her, like ‘I wore a dress today, want to see a picture?’ It’s that kind of relationship.”
Meanwhile, A Normal Family is set to be released on October 16.
