The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRC) has launched an investigation into the Incheon Airport security detail following allegations of excessive security measures for actor Byeon Woo Seok.
On the 25th, the NHRC announced that a complaint had been filed, citing “excessive security as a violation of human rights” in relation to the actor’s security detail. The complaint initially targeted a private security firm but was redirected to the Incheon Airport security team, prompting the investigation.
An NHRC representative stated, “When the complaint was initially filed against the private security firm, it was not within our jurisdiction.” They then clarified, “However, since the Incheon Airport security team is a formal entity, they are subject to investigation. We need to determine whether they played an active role in the situation, approved, or consented to the actions of the private security firm.”
The incident in question occurred on July 12th, when Byeon Woo Seok was departing Incheon Airport for an Asian fan meeting tour in Hong Kong. Fans flocked to the airport, leading the private security team to allegedly control access to gates, use flashlights on passengers near the lounge, and even check boarding passes, sparking controversy.
In a separate but related action, Incheon International Airport Corporation filed a lawsuit against the private security firm responsible for the incident. The corporation’s security team filed the complaint with the Incheon International Airport Police on the 25th.
Meanwhile, the Incheon International Airport Police is conducting an internal investigation into the security firm. Police have already interviewed the head of the private security detail as a witness and are considering charges, including assault, coercion, and obstruction of business, depending on the findings.

These people need to go outside and touch grass. They were not pushed nor injured. Woo Seok has always being so kind with fans. He doesn’t deserve this controversy. The security guards were doing their job. I applaud the fact that they even checked the tickets because what is your business being inside the departure area of you’re not flying? Besides, they went to see him and they did. You don’t need to be on their faces to get a good shot. Period.
