Hwang Jung Min and Jung Hae In’s ‘I, The Executioner’ Captivates Cannes With Top-Notch Action and Dynamic Storytelling

I, The Executioner, also known as Veteran 2, had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in France, captivating audiences worldwide with its captivating story.

The film was officially screened at the Grand Auditorium Louis Lumière at 12:30 AM local time on May 20th. It received a ten-minute standing ovation, with a huge crowd cheering and clapping for the director and actors.

Director Ryu Seung Wan said, “I am so happy to be able to introduce this film for the first time at Cannes. I can’t express it in words. It took 50 years to come to Cannes. I sincerely thank the Cannes Film Festival officials, the audience who came to the theater today, the future audience who has not yet seen this film, and the actors and family who made this film together.”

Hwang Jung Min shared, “I’m overwhelmed by your incredible love and gratitude. I can’t wait to share this experience with our amazing fans back home.”

Thierry Frémaux, the director of the Institut Lumière, of the Lumière Film Festival and of the Cannes Film Festival, praised the film, saying, “It’s a great film to be invited to the midnight screening. It’s an even more amazing film to see on the big screen.”

Major overseas distributors also praised the film. Marko Möllers, director of German distributor Splendid, said, “This movie perfectly captures why we adore Ryu Seung Wan’s films. He’s a master at crafting intense action sequences and weaving in humor perfectly.” Luis De Val, CEO of Spanish distributor Youplanet Pictures, said, “It’s an immersive work that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The opening sequence in particular was the best I’ve seen in years. It’s a work at the forefront of Korean cinema, with outstanding action and narrative in harmony.” Tanya Dolzhenko, CEO of Russian distributor Provzglyad, said, “This movie hooked me with its creativity, energy, and sheer charm. It’s a must-see movie with top-notch action and a variety of delightful elements.”
