Branding in Seongsu (2/5)

LG Uplus released Branding in Seongsu, its first original series of 2024, following the success of two previous teen thrillers, High Cookie and Night Has Come. Branding in Seongsu is a romance and thriller that tells the story of two people whose souls are switched. Kim Ji Eun plays Kang Na Eon, a marketing team leader who is excellent at her job but has a bad reputation due to her workaholic nature. Lomon plays So Eun Ho, a free-spirited intern with his own beliefs in personal values and principles. The two polar opposite people have their souls switched after a single kiss, and the tension is heightened by the appearance of a mysterious figure who is targeting Kang Na Eon. LG U+, which has received good responses with stories that are faithful to the genre’s grammar despite their small budgets, is expected to achieve another success this time.

A Killer Paradox (2/9)

Will the upcoming Netflix original series A Killer Paradox, starring Choi Woo Shik and Son Suk Ku, pull Netflix out of its recent funk? A Killer Paradox tells the story of a college student who starts killing only vicious criminals after an accidental murder, and a detective who is relentlessly chasing him. It is based on the webtoon of the same name by the author Komabi, which received a sensational response with its unconventional storytelling and unique drawing style. Choi Woo Shik is expected to show a new side of himself as a serial killer who only kills those who have committed evil deeds. Son Suk Ku is also trying to transform himself by growing a full beard for his role as a detective who is obsessed with the case. Just as Mask Girl, a webtoon adaptation that was released last year, received a hot response with its intense story, we all hope A Killer Paradox will also be a success.

Wedding Impossible (2/26)

Jeon Jong Seo returns to romantic comedy for the first time in three years since Nothing Serious. Wedding Impossible tells the story of a struggling actress who decides to marry her longtime friend who is a third-generation chaebol, and her future brother-in-law who is adamantly opposed to their marriage.  Jeon Jong Seo plays Na Ah Jeong, an actress with outstanding acting skills but low recognition, and Moon Sang Min of Under the Queen’s Umbrella plays Lee Ji Han, who has ambitions to make his brother the heir to the chaebol. Wedding Impossible presents a fresh romance with rising star Moon Sang Min and talented actress Jeon Jong Seo, who has mainly played strong and intense characters. Especially noteworthy is Jeon Jong Seo’s debut in TV dramas, raising curiosity about how she will shed her enigmatic image and approach viewers more intimately with beautiful romantic stories.

The Impossible Heir (2/28)

Disney Plus, which kicked off 2024 on a high note with A Shop for Killers, has greenlit The Impossible Heir starring young actors Lee Jae Wook, Lee Jun Young and Hong Suzu for its second original series. With a whopping 20 billion won budget, The Impossible Heir tells the story of young contenders vying for the throne of Korea’s top chaebol family. Lee Jae Wook, Lee Jun Young, and Hong Suzu play characters fueled by intense ambition to reach the pinnacle. Little is known beyond basic casting information, with the plot shrouded in mystery. Lee Jae Wook appears as the cold-blooded Han Tae Oh, Lee Jun Young portrays the morally ambiguous Kang In Ha, and Hong Suzu takes on the role of Na Hye Won. What will this trio’s ambitious pursuit of power look like?

Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, Pyramid Game follows the students at Baekyeon Girls’ High as they cast their votes in a popularity poll that determines the entire social hierarchy of the school. The star-studded cast includes WJSN’s Bona, Jang Da Ah, Ryu Da In, Shin Seul Ki, Kang Na Eon and YULLIA.

Apartment 404 Not Found (2/23)

tvN’s new variety show Apartment 404 is garnering attention due to the participation of BLACKPINK’s Jennie, who is embarking on full-fledged solo activities. While she renewed her contract with YG Entertainment as part of BLACKPINK, Jennie commenced her independent career path by establishing her own agency, Odd Atelier, with her mother. This marks her second time as a fixed cast member on a variety show after the 2018 reality TV Village Survival, the Eight. In this upcoming project, she will be joining Yoo Jae Suk, Cha Tae Hyun, Oh Nara, Yang Se Chan and Lee Jung Ha. Jennie’s recent guest appearance on Red Carpet with Lee Hyo Ri was a major hit, and anticipation is high for whether Apartment 404 will also benefit from her charming presence. The show promises to be a detective variety show with mysterious events surrounding an apartment setting. Apartment 404 is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video.
