The internet couldn’t get enough of Song Kang and Takanori Iwata when they first met virtually last February. After lighting up social media, fans have been dying for more, and their wish has been granted. The two leading men met in Japan for an in-person catch-up that spilled the tea on their friendship and upcoming projects.

Song Kang had nothing but respect for Once Upon a Crime star Iwata, expressing keen interest in his versatile talent. “You answered my questions so thoughtfully that I became even more interested in you,” said Song Kang, fueling the bromance further.

Iwata chimed in to share how their initial connection led to a long-distance friendship. “We live in different countries, but he sent me flowers on the first day of my concert last year,” recounted Iwata. “We’ve been in touch like that even after that interview.”

The real juice came when Song Kang opened up about his acting challenges, particularly with season 2 of Netflix’s Sweet Home, set to drop later this year. “A lot of CGI was used, so we often filmed with green screens and I had to do a lot of stunts with wires,” he revealed. “I’m afraid of heights, so I remember shouting, ‘I can’t do this!’ It was a challenging process, but every time I work on these shows, I learn more about myself and grow as an actor.”

The conversation then took an exciting twist, as both actors pondered the possibility of a future collaboration. While the details are still up in the air, Song Kang envisioned a story of an “immature boy and his quiet older brother” overcoming challenges. In another take, Iwata expressed his penchant for mystery and suspense genres.

Will this dream collaboration become a reality? We can only hope, but for now, Song Kang continues to win our hearts, one role at a time.
