Byeon Woo Seok posed for the new pictorial in the April issue of Cosmopolitan Korea.

After the photoshoot, the actor sat down for an interview. Choosing the beach scene in Soulmate as the most memorable scene, he explained, “It also appeared in the teaser. It’s the happiest moment for the three friends, Mi So, Ha Eun, and Jin Woo.” He then recalled, “We shot that scene around October and November, but we had to look like we were having a blast like it was midsummer. Shivering in the cold together, I actually became close friends with Kim Da Mi and Jeon So Nee.”

Byeon Woo Seok also discussed the challenges he faced while portraying the character Ham Jin Woo. “The age spectrum was very broad, from his teenage days to his 30s. It wasn’t difficult to change the outward appearance with the help of the costume and props team, but it was hard to express the inner emotions of the character,” he reflected.

“I tried to use facial expressions and eye movements rather than conveying the emotions directly through dialogue. So it took me a long time to interpret and understand the character,” he continued, “I wanted to depict the growth of a person who matures and expresses his emotions more clearly as he gets older while not changing the fundamental essence of seeking stability and pursuing success.”

Meanwhile, Byun Woo Seok took on his first villain role in the upcoming drama Strong Woman Kang Nam Soon (literal title). “Since I’ve been playing the role of a villain lately, I think I’m coming across as a bit more ferocious in photos,” he joked. He then added, “There were many scenes that required me to express emotions, so it was difficult to act in the early stages of filming. I went through a process of adjusting with the director while monitoring to make sure that my performance wasn’t too excessive.”

As for his ultimate goal as an actor, the actor said he wants to showcase a performance that he’s satisfied with. “I still haven’t met my own standards yet. With Strong Woman Kang Nam Soon, I think I’m about 60% there,” he said, revealing his aspirations as an actor. The drama is scheduled to air in the second half of this year.
