The Pirates: The Lost Royal Treasure climbed up to No. 3 on Netflix’s global chart just two days after its release on March 2nd. According to FlixPatrol, The Pirates: The Royal Treasure is now at No. 3 on the list of Top Movies on Netflix, following Against the Ice and Restless.

The Pirates attracted 8.6 million moviegoers in 2014. The sequel was expected to bring many movie fans to theaters, however, gathered only 1.32 million viewers due to its underachieving film quality and rise of the Omicron variant.

The fantasy action blockbuster needed to gather at least 4 million viewers to cover its production cost, which is about 25 billion KRW. The movie failed to attract the expected audience in theaters, but it is making up for its underachievement at the box office by attracting a large global audience on an online streaming platform.

The Pirates: The Lost Royal Treasure is the first film to debut on Netflix’s TOP 10 Most Popular Movie list after Love and Leashes, which debuted on the same list at No. 8 this year. As the movie enters the list, currently four Korean movies and dramas are on the TOP 10 global chart on Netflix. All of Us Are Dead is staying at No. 6, while Juvenile Justice and Business Proposal maintains its place on No. 7 and No. 9 on the most popular TV shows chart.
