The Seoul Western District Court dismissed an injunction filed by a civic group against Snowdrop‘s broadcaster JTBC on December 29th.

Previously, a civic group called the Declaration of Global Citizens in Korea filed for an injunction against JTBC to stop airing the series. The group claimed, “Snowdrop portrays the Agency for National Security Planning (ANSP) in a positive light. It depicts ANSP agents as good-hearted officials, while they tortured and murdered numerous democratization activists. This can mislead younger generations and imply wrong values that violence by the state can be justified.”

JTBC rebutted that the allegations on history distortion will be solved fairly as the drama proceeds further.

The court ruled in favor of JTBC. “Even if Snowdrop is based on a distorted historical viewpoint as argued by the complaint, it is difficult to believe that viewers will blindly adopt the content,” the court stated. It added, “The group cannot seek an injunction on behalf of the general public.”
