It’s official. BTS will not be attending the 2021 MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards).

On the 2nd, an official from Mnet made a brief statement to confirm the cancelation of BTS’s appearance in the upcoming award ceremony.

Initially, BTS had been discussing their appearance with the 2021 MAMA. But due to scheduling conflicts, the act had decided to sit out of this year’s event. However, they will soothe fans’ disappointment with a short video. Mnet shared, “Due to scheduling issues, BTS can’t record an entire performance. But they are preparing a short video for their fans.”

In light of the spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant, the South Korean government has placed new quarantine regulations. Regardless of their vaccination status, all foreigners entering Korea must undergo self-isolation for ten days starting tomorrow.

Currently, the K-pop sensation is scheduled to perform at the ‘2021 Jingle Ball Tour’ in LA on December 3rd PST. So even if the group chooses to return home immediately afterward, taking part in the 2021 MAMA on the 11th is impossible.

Meanwhile, BTS successfully wrapped up their long-awaited offline concert “Permission to Dance on Stage – LA.” At the 2020 MAMA, the act took home nine awards and performed three of their hit songs, “ON,” “Dynamite,” and “Life Goes On.”
