Sinkhole broke the box office record on its opening night.

Released on August 11th, the movie drew 147,116 moviegoers on its first day, setting a new opening night record for a film released in Korea this year.

Significantly, the movie attracted more viewers on its opening night than the movies Escape from Mogadishu (126,672) and The Medium‘s (129, 937) did, which came out on July 28th and 14th respectively. Therefore, Sinkhole became the film with the third-highest first-day gross among all films released this year, following F9, the latest installment in the Fast and Furious franchise, and Marvel Studios’ Black Widow.

People who watched the movie left favorable reviews, such as, “It gets so funny whenever Lee Kwang Soo appears on the screen.” “Kwang Soo fell into a sinkhole. That’s why he couldn’t appear in Running Man.” “It’s a witty blockbuster! I’d love to watch with my family,” and “It was unusual from the beginning, but I laughed the most this year.”

Sinkhole is a film about an average man’s house, that took 11 years to buy, falling into a sinkhole of 500m.
