BTS Wins Grand Prize for 4 Consecutive Years in the Seoul Music Awards

BTS has won the grand prize at the 30th High1 Seoul Music Awards (a.k.a. SMA). This is their fourth consecutive year in winning the prize.

On the 31st, the 30th SMA was held at Jamsil Gymnastics Stadium, Seoul. It was held without any audience due to the COVID-19 situation.

The honorable grand prize went to BTS on this day. Through a video, BTS made their acceptance speech saying, “We won the grand prize at the 30th anniversary of SMA. We are happier than ever to have received this award.”

They continued, “We feel like we could start this year off with a lot of energy thanks to this valuable award. Above all, we were able to receive such a big award thanks to ARMYs. We would not have been here if you all weren’t here.” BTS also wished everyone a new year and hoped for everyone to stay healthy, and enjoy 2021 with them.

The awards for best music and album also went to BTS. Whilst the group was unable to attend the awards ceremony, they gave the acceptance speech through a video.

The main prize was won by TWICE, Stray Kids, Kang Daniel, SEVENTEEN, TXT, IZ*ONE, ATEEZ, BTS, NU’EST, OH MY GIRL, NCT127, and MONSTA X.

On this day, the R&B Hip-hop award went to Jessi, whilst the OST award went to actor Cho Jung Seok. Best Performance Award was jointly won by (G)I-DLE and THE BOYZ. This year’s Discovery Award went to ITZY.

The winner of the Band Award Leenalchi said that “2020 was a meaningful and unforgettable year for [them].” The Rookie of the Year was taken by TREASURE, aespa, and ENHYPEN. Each of the three teams thanked their respective agencies and fans as they expressed future aspirations. Lim Young Woong proved his popularity by winning two trophies including the trot award and the popularity award.
