Epik High has made a comeback with not one, but two CDs full of messages of encouragement and empathy. The group expressed their hopes to reveal their charms as a performance group in 2021, as they leave behind the year of 2020, in which they only went back and forth between home and studio.
Epik High talked about recent events ahead of the release of the 10th full-length album Epik High is Here上 (part 1) on the 18th. As they returned in about three years and three months, they explained, “It’s only been about two years since we established an independent agency with only Epik High in it. We each had more work, and we went to perform overseas often as we got a lot of belated attention from abroad in 2019.” Mitsura said, “I had no choice but to only circulate my house and the studio,” as he expressed his disappointment for the COVID-19 situation which struck in 2020.
Their hard work has resulted in 2 CDs. “I used to say that I wouldn’t make two CDs because I was exhausted, but I took back my words. There were a lot of stories we wanted to tell,” Tukutz said. The album contains Epik High’s determination as they kept their position as a group despite all kinds of hardships and challenges in their 17 years of career. They also included the message of consolation that aims to protect anyone who feels as if “no one in the world understands them.”
The members of Epik High defined their music career by each saying, “Music is my life,” “I’ve been making music that pleases the heart rather than the eyes,” and “It’s our music when we’re making it, but once you listen to it, it’s yours.”
They also confessed, “We thought about whether it was right to release an album at a time when we can’t perform.” Tablo explained how they’ve come to release the album despite the situation, “I recently met U-Know Yunho at the broadcasting station. He told me that it reminded him of the past, you know, with Rain and Epik High’s releases. That made me think that it could be better for us to release the album now.”
The title track Rosario (Feat. CL and Zico) throws a cool blow at those who wish for others’ misfortunes and failures. It is a trendy and fierce hip-hop song that claims, “I am a living legend and I will stay that way.”
Based on a True Story, a double title song along with Rosario is a song for those who feel like sad dramas, movies and songs are about their life stories. It is of classical genre which reminds one of an animation OP.
Epik High hopes people feel comforted with their song Based on a True Story, and for those who want something more intense, they recommend Rosario.
