An Indonesian singer has been embroiled in controversy for plagiarizing IU’s music video.

On October 23, Indonesian singer Via Vallen released the official music video for her new song “Kasih Dengarkanlah Aku” on YouTube.

Via Vallen herself and Dyrga Dadali, who participated in the featuring, appeared in the music video. However, from the very beginning, the video shows the same composition and scenes as IU’s music video for “above the time.” Not only were the props such as teacups and feathers imitated, the costumes and the makeup for the characters showed similarities.

Immediately after the video was released, the comment box was bombarded with criticisms for plagiarizing IU’s music video. Some even demanded the singer to take down the video instantly.

In the face of mounting criticism, Via Vallen’s agency released its official position through a YouTube comment. In it, they wrote, “Whereas the management accepts all video clip concepts/ideas offered by the director,” and “The artist, in this case Via Vallen and Dyrga Dadali, as the main actors in the video clip, only carry out their duties as talents whose activities are directed by the director.”
