A debate has emerged online over IVE member Jang Wonyoung‘s behavior during a recent airport appearance.
IVE departed from Gimpo International Airport for Shanghai to attend an overseas schedule on May 30th.
As the members went through the identity verification process, they presented their passports to airport staff. Jang Wonyoung slightly lifted her hat and lowered her mask for identification. Staff then reportedly asked her to lower the mask further for a facial comparison, and she lowered it two more times before completing the verification process.
Jang Wonyoung stood with her arms crossed while waiting and accepted her passport with one hand before moving on.
Fellow member Gaeul, who went through the process afterward, took a different approach. She removed her mask completely during the identity check, then put it back on afterward. She also accepted her passport with both hands and gave a slight bow before leaving.
A video of the interaction has since spread across online communities and social media, generating mixed reactions. The netizen who first shared the video wrote, “So rude. By the way, celebrities really are incredibly skinny. She’s basically just skin and bones.” The clip has amassed more than 25 million views as of this writing.

Some fans defended Jang Wonyoung, arguing that she lowered her mask as much as necessary while surrounded by cameras and a large crowd at the airport. They also said the way she accepted her passport was a minor detail that was being overanalyzed.
Others, however, expressed disappointment. They pointed to the staff’s repeated requests for her to lower her mask, her posture while waiting, and the way she accepted her passport as reasons for their criticism, fueling an ongoing online debate.
Some netizens further claimed that this was not the first time she had been criticized for similar behavior, sharing old videos of the star.
