Critics and fans are shocked with the Emmys shunning Apple TV+ original series Pachinko. Many media outlets quickly made reports about the show getting snubbed, questioning why the series was left off at the 2022 Emmy Awards.

On July 12th, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS) announced the final candidates for the 74th Emmy Awards. Squid Game became the first non-English show that got nominated for multiple Emmy Awards, but Pachinko scored only one nomination: for Main Title Design.

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, Pachinko garnered lots of attention for its star-studded cast including Kim Min Ha, Oscar winner Youn Yuh Jung, and Lee Min Ho, and it also won rave reviews from critics from all around the world.

Regarding the show being snubbed, IndieWire pointed out, “it’s hard to point to a specific reason “Pachinko” was widely ignored at the Emmys. It could be stiff competition, could be a lack of overall viewership, could be a lot of little reasons that stacked up at the wrong time. But such a widespread dismissal is hard to swallow.”

The Hollywood Reporter commented, “Pachinko’s opening credits deserve the nomination they got, but the rest of the show deserves a bunch more nominations they didn’t get.”

LA Times reported, “Soo Hugh’s magnificent series might have been the best show on television this last year, so the paucity of recognition stings.”
