The massive hit The King’s Warden has officially become the most-watched Korean movie released since the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Korean Film Council, the historical drama surpassed 13.46 million moviegoers on March 15th, its 40th day in theaters, setting a new record for Korean films released in the post-pandemic era.

The King’s Warden tells the story of a village chief who voluntarily chooses exile in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457 for the sake of his community’s survival, and a young dethroned king who is also sent into exile. Their unexpected bond unfolds against the backdrop of political upheaval and sacrifice.

As the film continues to spark what many are calling the nationwide King’s Warden craze, audiences of all ages have helped power its remarkable box office run. As of the 15th, the film had recorded a total of 13,467,838 viewers.

That milestone surpasses the previous post-pandemic record held by 12.12: The Day, which drew 13,128,080 moviegoers after its release in 2023.

With the new achievement, The King’s Warden now ranks No. 5 among the highest-grossing Korean films of all time and No. 7 overall at the Korean box office when including international releases, further cementing its status as one of the biggest hits of 2026.
