Lee Byung Hun and Jun Ji Hyun may be headed for a long-awaited reunion on screen.

Jun Ji Hyun, who is gearing up for the launch of her Disney Plus original series Tempest, is currently reviewing an offer to star in director Ahn Gil Ho’s new spy drama The Koreans (working title). Lee Byung Hun is also said to be in final talks, raising anticipation for what could be a dream casting.

If confirmed, this would mark the pair’s first project together since the 1999 SBS drama Happy Together—26 years ago. Back then, they played siblings, but this time around, they’ve been offered roles as a married spy couple.

With Ahn Gil Ho—one of Korea’s hottest directors thanks to The Glory—attached, the reunion of two of Korea’s biggest stars could deliver a series with global impact.

The Koreans is a Korean remake of FX’s acclaimed series The Americans, reimagined against the backdrop of South Korea’s turbulent military dictatorship era. The original played out during the Cold War in 1980s Washington, D.C., and this new version promises a gripping local spin.

Production is being handled by Studio AA, though the broadcast platform has not yet been finalized. Given the scale of the project, discussions are reportedly ongoing with multiple global streamers. Filming is expected to kick off later this year once casting is locked.

Jun Ji Hyun’s agency Peachy confirmed to IZE, “It’s true she has received the offer for ‘The Koreans’ and is reviewing it. Final decisions will be made after coordinating her existing schedule.”

In addition to The Koreans, Jun Ji Hyun has also been offered a role in Human X Gumiho (literal title) from The Beauty Inside writer Im Meari. On top of promoting Tempest, she recently wrapped filming for the feature Colony and is currently weighing multiple follow-up projects, making this one of her busiest years to date.
