Taiwanese actress and close friend of Barbie Hsu, Chia Yeong Chieh, shared on social media that Koo Jun Yup was by his wife’s side in her final moments.
Chia Yeong Chieh took to Instagram on February 3rd to recount Barbie Hsu’s last moments. She was in Japan at the time but rushed to be by Barbie’s side as soon as she heard the devastating news.

“I immediately took the Shinkansen after hearing the news. She looked peaceful as if she had simply fallen asleep,” she wrote. “My heart aches, but I had no choice but to let her go. No matter how much I cried, I couldn’t wake her up.”
Referring to Koo Jun Yup, she continued, “He kissed her one last time. His cries broke my heart.”
Expressing her grief, she added, “I miss her. We were supposed to have a meal together at my place after the Lunar New Year.” She also shared a photo from a recent gathering hosted by a Taiwanese film producer, where she had dined with Barbie Hsu and Koo Jun Yup.
Finally, she wrote, “Barbie’s sudden passing has been incredibly difficult for her family and friends to accept. They are mourning deeply, so please give them time and space to grieve.”
According to local media, including Taiwan’s Central News Agency, Barbie Hsu passed away while traveling in Japan due to complications from pneumonia.
Her sudden passing, just before her third wedding anniversary with Koo Jun Yup, has left fans in both Taiwan and South Korea heartbroken.
The couple had previously dated for about a year in 1998 during Koo’s time with the group Clon, but they broke up due to long-distance challenges and opposition from his agency.
Barbie Hsu later married a Chinese businessman in 2011 but divorced in 2021 due to marital discord. After their divorce, Koo Jun Yup reached out to her, and the two rekindled their relationship, eventually marrying in 2022.
