The 2024 MAMA Awards are underway, and the excitement is palpable.
The three-day international K-pop awards ceremony is being held at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre (Nov. 21) and the Kyoawea Dome in Osaka, Japan (Nov. 22-23). aespa leads the nominations with an impressive eight nods, including multiple recognitions in major categories like Visa Artist of the Year, Visa Song of the Year, and Visa Album of the Year. JENNIE follows closely with seven nominations, her solo work earning her spots in the Grand award categories, including Artist and Song of the Year.
Other notable nominees across the Grand awards include Girls’ Generation’s TAEYEON, SEVENTEEN, (G)I-DLE, IVE, LE SSERAFIM, and RIIZE, each receiving multiple nominations.
The MAMAs officially kicked off on November 21 in Los Angeles with a press conference featuring US performers J.Y. Park and RIIZE, who previewed their upcoming performances. J.Y. Park shared details of his impromptu collaboration with Anderson .Paak, focusing on creating a unique performance. Meanwhile, RIIZE revealed a stage inspired by Michael Jackson, with members Shotaro and Wonbin planning a dance section inspired by an “eclipse.”
Today, the first winners were announced in five categories:
Best Dance Performance Male Group: TWS
Inspiring Achievement: JYP
Best New Female Group: ILLIT
Best New Male Artist: TWS
Favorite Global Performer Male: RIIZE
The remaining awards, including Best Male Group, Best Female Group, Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, Best Dance Performance Male Solo, Best Dance Performance Female Solo, Best Dance Performance Female Group, Best Vocal Performance Solo, Best Vocal Performance Group, Best Rap & Hip-Hop Performance, Best Band Performance, Best Collaboration, Best OST, Best Music Video, Best Choreography, Visa ARTIST OF THE YEAR, Visa SONG OF THE YEAR, Visa ALBUM OF THE YEAR, Visa FANS’ CHOICE OF THE YEAR, FANS’ CHOICE MALE / FANS’ CHOICE FEMALE, will be revealed throughout the rest of the three-day event.
