Soyeon of i-dle is once again at the center of speculation over her relationship with her agency, Cube Entertainment.
The singer posted the cryptic message, “I’m quitting,” on August 27th. She also shared a photo of herself reaching toward the Cube Entertainment logo. It is unclear whether she was simply matching her nails to the logo or suggesting a goodbye, but the post quickly brought back memories of her previous public criticism of the agency.
Shortly before her contract renewal in 2024, Soyeon performed lyrics at a concert that said, “Contract ends in November. Why should I care about what others think?” The performance sparked speculation that she would leave Cube Entertainment.
Cube Entertainment responded at the time by saying, “The members’ contract renewals are scheduled for 2025,” and explained that the lyrics were part of her performance.
Soyeon later pushed back against the agency’s response, saying, “This performance did not contain lies, nor was it hidden from the company. It was a stage we created together, rehearsing dozens of times in front of everyone.” She added, “This will be an opportunity to once again feel the inadequacy of our company’s response.”
Despite the controversy, Soyeon and the other members of i-dle renewed their contracts with Cube Entertainment in December 2024.
Now, her latest post has brought renewed attention to her relationship with the agency and sparked speculation about what she meant by “I’m quitting.”
Meanwhile, Soyeon is preparing to release her first solo album, What a Wonderful Life, on September 7th.
