Jin Ki Joo has shared her thoughts on wrapping up Netflix’s Teach You a Lesson, along with details about her character preparation and behind-the-scenes filming.

In the series, Jin Ki Joo plays Lim Han Rim, a special forces-trained agent working for the Teacher’s Rights Protection Agency.

Her intense shouting scenes in the show drew significant attention, with some viewers praising the performance as fitting for her role, while others found it a bit excessive. Jin Ki Joo explained that the foundation for this character trait actually came from an idea by her co-star, Lee Sung Min.

“I watched a lot of documentaries and variety shows featuring special forces soldiers,” she said. “They have this almost animal-like roar, which wasn’t a sound I was used to hearing.”

She continued, “When special forces members shout like that on variety shows, the next scene usually cuts to the studio panel reacting in shock or laughing. At first, I had the exact same reaction.”

“But as I kept watching and practicing it, I realized it wasn’t just a performance or a chosen ‘style.’ These are people who have pushed their bodies and minds to the absolute limit for years. Eventually, I realized that sound comes from a place of extreme mental and physical endurance.”

She added, “Lim Han Rim used to run away from difficult situations. It must have been incredibly hard for someone inherently weak to undergo such intense training and become that strong. I felt like that roar was something that would become instinctively ingrained in her body. That said, I totally understand if it felt a bit too loud for some viewers.”

She also addressed a line in the drama regarding breast surgery that occurs during her character’s first appearance.

“I saw that scene as a quick way to establish who Han Rim is,” she explained. “It was meant to show students mistakenly thinking she was just a trainee teacher and trying to provoke her. It really highlights her personality and shows how efficiently she handles those kinds of situations.”

According to Tudum, Netflix’s official ranking site, Teach You a Lesson topped Netflix’s global non-English TV chart just three days after its release on June 5th.

Jin Ki Joo shared her reaction with a smile, saying, “My social media follower count jumped by about 500,000. It didn’t quite hit a million, but it was still a huge increase for me.”

She also mentioned the warm reactions she received from her agency head, as well as actors Zo In Sung and Cha Tae Hyun.

“They watched it right away and reached out to say, ‘We watched it, you did an amazing job.’ I was so happy because they’ve been incredibly supportive. They also congratulated me when they saw how well the show was doing in the rankings.”

As the drama continues to gain traction, discussions about creating a real-life Teacher’s Rights Protection Agency have actually emerged in political circles.

Jin Ki Joo responded cautiously to the news, saying, “I think this is an issue that needs to be approached with a lot of care. In real life, the line between good and bad isn’t nearly as clear-cut as it is in a drama.”

She added, “We need to be very careful, and a lot of different perspectives need to be brought to the table. I think reaching a collective, well-thought-out judgment is necessary.”

When asked about the possibility of a Season 2, she brought up P.O, who plays her love interest in the series.

“If we do get a Season 2, I’m really curious about how those two would realize their feelings and what kind of relationship they’d develop,” she said with a laugh. “Though honestly, I think they might just end up becoming really good friends.”
