Anticipation is building for Hope, the latest film from director Na Hong Jin—and now fans are getting their first look.
The upcoming thriller, which has already been invited to compete at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, has released six official stills, offering a first glimpse into its intense visual style. The film has also secured North American distribution through NEON, further raising global expectations.
The newly revealed images highlight the film’s moody, immersive atmosphere. In one, Hwang Jung Min appears as Beom Seok, seen through a fogged-up window as if being watched. Another captures Zo In Sung’s character Seong Gi aiming a gun deep in the forest, while Jung Ho Yeon’s Seong Ae stands armed in the middle of a destroyed village, underscoring the film’s tension-filled stakes.

Set against the backdrop of a remote port village near the DMZ, the stills also show the characters confronting an unexplainable crisis. Beom Seok, a local outpost chief, is seen taking cover with a weapon in hand, while Seong Gi makes an urgent call and Seong Ae reacts in shock beside a police vehicle—hinting at a community thrown into chaos.
Hope follows the story of Beom Seok, who is alerted by local youths that a tiger has appeared in the area. As the entire village goes on high alert, he is forced to face an unbelievable reality.
Known for his gripping storytelling and meticulous visual style, Na Hong Jin’s long-awaited new project will make its world premiere at Cannes this May, before heading to theaters later this summer.
