Cha Ga Won‘s camp is pushing back against allegations made by Lee Seung Gi regarding a luxury home rental deal.
Lawyer Hyun Dong Yeop, legal counsel for One Hundred Label, released a preview video on his YouTube channel on June 8th discussing the ongoing dispute. In the video, Hyun argued that the controversy is not a housing scam but an attempt to break an exclusive management contract.
Hyun shared screenshots of messages he said were sent by Lee Seung Gi. In the messages, the sender thanked Cha Ga Won for allowing him to move into a luxury residence and expressed satisfaction with the living arrangement. “Thank you, Chairman, for letting me move into LANUVO. Living here together makes me feel secure and settled,” the sender wrote.
Hyun also claimed that the person in the messages, whom he alleges is Lee Seung Gi, was speaking negatively about the neighborhood to attack Chairman Cha Ga Won, showing messages in which Lee allegedly discussed property appraisals and valuations.
“Are people saying that Lee Seung Gi, Cha Ga Won, and the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives in Wando County were all working together in a jeonse scam?” he asked. “I honestly don’t see what part of this could be considered a scam. If anything, those making the accusation seem to be contradicting themselves.”
The attorney went on to reveal that Cha Ga Won’s phone had undergone forensic analysis.
“There is a tremendous amount of information that could shake the entertainment industry,” he claimed. “Starting with Lee Seung Gi, we’re going to reveal everything.”
The comments come after Lee Seung Gi alleged during MBC’s PD Note that he moved into the luxury villa where he currently lives, valued at approximately 10.5 billion won ($6.9 million), at Chairman Cha’s recommendation. Lee claimed that Cha later requested a jeonse deposit that was roughly three times the property’s market rate, citing appraisal and valuation reasons.
Jeonse is a unique South Korean rental system in which tenants pay a large upfront deposit instead of monthly rent. The deposit, which can amount to a significant portion of the property’s value, is returned in full at the end of the lease.
However, the reaction from netizens has been largely negative. Below are some comments left on the video, translated automatically into English.
