Lee Dong Gun is joining Divorce Camp—but not everyone is on board.
On April 29th, JTBC confirmed that Lee Dong Gun will appear on the show starting in July as a household investigator, stepping in for Jin Tae Hyun.
Jin Tae Hyun had been part of the program since its August 2024 premiere, serving as the investigator representing the husband’s side. News of his departure broke on Monday, and he later addressed it in a handwritten letter posted to Instagram.
“I’ve decided to step down from ‘Divorce Camp,’” he wrote, explaining that he was informed of the production team’s decision through his manager and wrapped up his final filming in early April.
“Out of my 25 years in entertainment, I worked harder on this than anything else and approached it with sincerity,” the actor added. He closed by saying he plans to continue living as a “marriage-encouraging couple” with his wife.
Still, the casting change has sparked a wave of critical reactions from viewers.
Some expressed frustration over Jin Tae Hyun’s sudden exit, with comments like: “People watched this show because Park Ha Sun, Seo Jang Hoon, and Jin Tae Hyun would call things out honestly… this feels unnecessary.”
Others questioned the decision to bring in Lee Dong Gun: “Viewers want to see devoted husband Jin Tae Hyun, not Lee Dong Gun with all his checkered past” and “Why replace someone who was doing well?”
There were also pointed criticisms tied to Lee Dong Gun’s personal history: “So what, he’ll empathize with the husbands now? Or is he gonna give advice from his personal experience?” and “This feels like casting based on connections. People are tired of it.”
Meanwhile, Lee Dong Gun married actress Jo Yoon Hee in 2017, and the couple welcomed a daughter before divorcing in 2020 after three years of marriage.
