Lee Jong Won is sharing his admiration for co-star Kim Hye Yoon.
In an interview on April 2nd, the actor spoke about working with Kim Hye Yoon in the upcoming horror film Salmokji: Whispering Water, calling her the set’s ultimate mood-maker. “Hye Yoon was the one who kept the atmosphere up,” he said. “Even when she wasn’t feeling her best, she never stopped smiling—like a puppy.”
Set to hit theaters on April 8th, Salmokji: Whispering Water follows a film crew that returns to a reservoir after a mysterious figure appears in their footage, only to encounter something lurking beneath the dark waters. The film marks director Lee Sang Min’s feature debut. Lee Jong Won plays Yoon Gi Tae, a producer who joins the project late—and the ex-boyfriend of Su In (Kim Hye Yoon).
Reflecting on their on-screen chemistry, Lee Jong Won said the two quickly grew close. “From the moment we met, it felt like we’d already known each other for a week,” he shared. “Hye Yoon has this ability to show different sides of herself depending on who she’s with. She makes people feel comfortable really fast.”
He added that their bond naturally carried into the film. “We filmed for about short three months, but I think that connection shows in the movie. She helped me a lot, and I understood why everyone speaks so highly of her.”
Lee Jong Won also noted how Kim Hye Yoon helped lift spirits on set, despite the film’s dark tone and challenging conditions. “The film’s genre itself is dark and gloomy, and we were filming in a damp, unpleasant location, but she always kept a bright energy,” he said. “She didn’t try to force it—just greeting people would lighten the mood.”
He also mentioned co-star Jang Daa, adding, “You could see her smile from far away when she walked in. Even after filming intense or scary scenes, she’d immediately say, ‘I’m okay!’ She’s incredibly resilient.”
