Kim Soo Hyun‘s side has once again denied allegations of dating a minor amidst the ongoing lawsuit with a cosmetics company.
The 22nd Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court held the second hearing for the 2.8 billion won ($1.9 million) damages lawsuit filed by the cosmetics company against Kim Soo Hyun and his agency on March 13th.
The court decided to proceed after a session solely to confirm the progress of the trial.
In relation to this, Bang Sung Hoon, a lawyer from LKB Pyeongsan Law Firm and Kim Soo Hyun’s legal representative, told Xports News, “The presiding judge has changed since the first hearing, so the case was continued to document the progress in the trial record.”
He added, “The court inquired about the progress of the case where Kim Soo Hyun filed a complaint against Kim Se Ui, operator of the YouTube channel Garosero Institute. A decision hasn’t been handed down yet, but we are expecting it soon.”
Regarding the legal dispute with the cosmetic company, he stated, “The company is claiming damages, but we believe the amount isn’t valid because the contract shouldn’t be terminated.”
He further explained, “The contract specifically states that ‘rumors or unverified information cannot be grounds for termination.’ While the company claims the allegations made by the YouTube channel are factual, we maintain that they are nothing more than unproven rumors.”
Lawyer Bang concluded, “Ultimately, we must wait for the outcome of the criminal case. Once that conclusion is reached, we will be able to provide our official position on the merits of the case and the alleged damages.”
The company had previously announced via social media in March that it was terminating its endorsement contract with Kim Soo Hyun. At the time, the agreement was still valid for over a year, with an original expiration date of August 2025.
During the initial hearing last November, the company argued the termination was justified, claiming, “The mere association of a public superstar like Kim Soo Hyun with allegations of dating a minor (the late Kim Sae Ron) constitutes a violation of the ‘dignity clause’ in his contract.”
Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team countered that the allegations are entirely baseless, clarifying that any actual relationship took place only after Kim Sae Ron had reached adulthood and entered university. They also argued, “Our initial denial of the dating rumors was made before the contract began, and it’s hard to understand how comments made when there was no contract could be seen as a violation of dignity.”
