Park Kyung Gu, leader of the band Earlginity and a singer-songwriter known for his distinct sensibility and poetic lyrics, has died. He was 38.

News of his death was shared on his personal account on the 7th. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Park was widely respected in Korea’s indie music scene for his lyrical storytelling, emotional melodies, and unmistakable voice. He was also a pivotal figure in shaping the early musical world of Jang Beomjune before the artist rose to fame as the frontman of Busker Busker.

A high school classmate of Jang Beomjune, Park played an extensive role in Jang’s first studio album. He is credited with writing, composing, and arranging every track on the album, including the title song “Difficult Woman,” as well as “The One I Love,” “Sinpung Station Exit No.2 Blues,” and “I Feel You in My Heart.”

His contributions continued beyond the debut album. Park is widely known as the original creator of “To Hongdae” and also worked on songs such as “Can’t Sleep” and “as you wish,” leaving a lasting impression through both solo and collaborative projects. His music, rooted in everyday moments, resonated quietly but deeply with listeners.

Following news of his passing, fans revisited a post Jang Beomjune shared in March last year during the release of his fourth album History of Nerds. Alongside a photo of the album, Jang wrote, “Wishing Kyung Gu good health.” Park replied at the time, “I’m healthy.” After the announcement of his death, fans left messages of grief beneath the post, expressing shock and sorrow.

Park Kyung Gu was a creator who lived between the stage and the studio, writing music in his own voice. His songs continue to live on in the playlists of many.

May he rest in peace.
