Cha Eun Woo’s agency, Fantagio, has released a second official statement regarding the actor’s ongoing tax controversy.
On January 27th, Fantagio apologized to the public, saying, “We sincerely apologize for causing concern due to issues involving our artist, Cha Eun Woo. We feel a strong sense of responsibility for the controversy surrounding both the company and the artist.”
The agency also commented on reports of a possible back tax assessment of around 20 billion won ($13.6 million). Fantagio stressed that the matter has not been finalized.
“The case is currently being reviewed according to tax authority procedures,” Fantagio said. “Both the artist and the agency are fully cooperating with the investigation within the required scope. Once legal and administrative decisions are confirmed, we will take all necessary steps responsibly.”
Fantagio also asked the public to avoid speculation. “We ask the public to refrain from excessive speculation or overinterpretation regarding unverified claims,” the agency stated.
The statement ended with a promise to improve internal management. “We will use this incident as an opportunity to review and strengthen our artist management system to prevent similar issues in the future,” Fantagio stated.
This follows Cha Eun Woo’s personal apology posted on January 26th. Currently serving in the military, he wrote, “I am reflecting on whether I was strict enough about my tax responsibilities.” He also said he would “fully cooperate with the investigation to resolve the matter.”
