No Other Choice actress Son Ye Jin marked a major turning point in her career this year, taking home her second Best Actress trophy at the Blue Dragon Film Awards and embracing what she calls a brand-new chapter of life.

Speaking after the ceremony, Son admitted the win still feels surreal. “I went straight into filming my next project after the awards, so everything passed in a blur,” she said with a laugh. “The Blue Dragon Awards already feel like a distant memory. I honestly didn’t expect to win, and I hadn’t even prepared a speech—looking back, I probably should have.”

Beyond Best Actress, Son also received the Popular Star Award, which she credited entirely to her fans. “That award was possible because of the fans’ support,” she said. “I still remember excitedly telling my husband (Hyun Bin) that morning, ‘We got first place!’” She added that she was especially touched by the encouragement she received from fans overseas.

Son shared a lighthearted story about how her win was seemingly foretold. “My manager told me they had a dream that I was pregnant with twins,” she said, smiling. “I felt like that dream somehow predicted the Blue Dragon award.”

The actress also opened up about returning to work after the longest hiatus of her career. “It was my first real break since I started acting,” she explained. “After giving birth, I realized just how important a mother’s presence is for a child. I originally planned to spend more time focused on childcare, but then director Park Chan Wook reached out, and that became my comeback project.” She added that becoming a mother helped her focus more deeply on her craft and connect with the complex emotions of parenting through her role.

“Right now, about 90 percent of my thoughts are about my child,” Son said candidly. “In the past, there was no clear line between work and personal life, but now I really have an on-and-off switch. I can concentrate fully in each moment, and that’s made my emotions richer as an actor.”

While she joked that she can no longer play a “first love,” she emphasized that her range has only expanded. “I can take on far more diverse roles now. My spectrum as an actress has grown.”

She closed the interview by sharing a hopeful goal for the future: “One day, I’d love for my husband Hyun Bin and me to win awards together.”
