The legal battle surrounding the late actress Kim Sae Ron has intensified, with her bereaved family claiming that Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team forced the cancellation of a TV special and is attempting to misrepresent their involvement in evidence tampering.
Attorney Bu Ji Seok, representing the late actress’s family, released a blistering statement on December 1st regarding the abrupt cancellation of the SBS current affairs program Curious Stories Y and the alleged media manipulation by Kim Soo Hyun’s camp.
The Abrupt Cancellation of ‘Curious Stories Y’
According to Attorney Bu, the family has fully cooperated with law enforcement, submitting all electronic devices, including the deceased’s mobile phone, and maintaining silence as advised by investigators. However, the situation shifted when the production team of SBS’s Curious Stories Y approached the family on November 8th.
The family learned that Kim Soo Hyun’s side had already completed an interview for the episode, which was scheduled to air on November 14th. The family agreed to be interviewed on November 10th to share their side of the story after much deliberation.
“We provided materials suggesting that the deceased had dated actor Kim Soo Hyun while she was a minor,” Attorney Bu explained. “We requested that the TV special handle the matter neutrally.”
The controversy arose the following day when the show’s producers allowed Kim Soo Hyun’s attorney to view the materials provided by the family for the purpose of a counter-argument.
Attorney Bu alleges that upon seeing the evidence, Kim Soo Hyun’s side immediately changed their stance. “Kim Soo Hyun’s attorney demanded that the information not be disclosed,” Bu stated. “He threatened civil and criminal action against the bereaved family if the materials were made public, and claimed it would constitute grounds for arrest.”
Consequently, the family was notified on November 12th that the broadcast had been cancelled just two days before the air date.
