Heo Sung Tae opened up about the behind-the-scenes aftermath of his infamous sex scene with Kim Joo Ryoung in Netflix’s Squid Game.
Appearing as a guest on Tak Jae Hoon’s YouTube channel “No Back Tack” on the 26th, Heo was asked, “You once told your wife you’d never film an intimate scene, and then you went all-in on that scene. What did she say afterward?” Heo replied, “She wasn’t jealous at all. The project was a hit, so she didn’t mind.”
He added that he warned his wife in advance: “We watched it together, but before that I briefed her a bit. It’s shocking, so you have to lay the groundwork first.”
Describing the filming environment, Heo said the scene was shot with a minimal crew on set. “Kim Joo Ryoung is very sensitive and expressive, and suddenly she started crying. For her, it was like, ‘The difficult scene is over. I feel relieved.’ But once she cried, everyone started giving me the side-eyes,” he joked.
He continued, “People were staring at me like I’d done something terrible. I basically turned into a pervert on the spot. Those who didn’t know the situation were whispering, ‘Heo Sung Tae must’ve done something,’ ‘Did he hit her?’—all these ridiculous misunderstandings.”
Meanwhile, Heo Sung Tae will next appear in the film The Informant, opening on December 3rd. The crime-action comedy follows Oh Nam Hyuk (Heo Sung Tae), a once-ace detective who has lost his passion and instincts after being demoted, and Jo Tae Bong (Jo Bok Rae), an informant who has been pocketing under-the-table cash while feeding police major case intel. The two stumble into a massive scheme, setting off a chaotic chain of events.
