Family Matters is officially coming back for Season 2.

According to an exclusive report from Ilgan Sports on the 17th, Coupang Play has confirmed production for Family Matters 2. While the principal cast from the first installment is reviewing their return, Ryu Seung Beom is expected to bow out.

The series is also undergoing a directing shake-up. Season 1 directors Kim Gok and Kim Sun will not be returning; instead, Kim Jung Min, who wrote the screenplay for Family Matters, will take the helm. Known for penning dramas such as Suits and Hush, Kim will make his directorial debut with the new season.

Released in November last year, Season 1 centered on a mother with the extraordinary ability to edit memories at will, teaming up with her family to unleash hell on a group of villains. Structured as a six-episode thriller, the drama followed adoptive mother Young Soo (Bae Doo Na), father Cheol Hee (Ryu Seung Beom), grandfather Kang Sung (Baek Yoon Sik), and twins Ji Hoon (Lomon) and Ji Woo (Lee Su Hyun) as they evolve into a real family through a brutal, darkly comic journey.

The series saw explosive momentum after release—within one week, viewership surged more than 225%, and it went on to claim No. 1 in both viewer count and watch time among all Coupang Play originals over the same period.

Family Matters 2 is expected to finalize its key casting soon before moving into pre-production.
