Hanni of NewJeans has been confirmed as the member mentioned by Minji and Danielle who traveled to Antarctica.
Ten Asia reported on November 17th that Hanni is currently staying near Antarctica. She was the only member absent from a meeting held on November 11th between ADOR CEO Lee Do Kyeong, NewJeans members, and their parents. On that day, Minji, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein, and their parents met with ADOR to discuss the ongoing situation. However, Hanni reportedly informed the agency that she could not attend.
Alongside Minji and Danielle, Hanni had previously announced through Law Firm Hanil on November 12th: “We recently decided to return to ADOR after careful consideration.” The statement also mentioned, “One member is currently in Antarctica, which delayed the communication. We were compelled to release our stance separately, as ADOR has not yet responded.”
The phrase “one member is currently in Antarctica” in the previous statement sparked curiosity about who the member was, leading to a so-called “Antarctica member search” commotion. A netizen on an online community posted a photo featuring Hanni’s autograph on social media, writing, “I coincidentally met Hanni in Ushuaia, Argentina.” They added, “Hanni looked very happy.” Ushuaia, located at the southernmost tip of Argentina, is one of the closest regions to Antarctica. Danielle, known for her passion for marathons alongside singer Sean, was also considered a potential member in Antarctica but is currently in South Korea.
Regarding the return of the other NewJeans members, ADOR initially stated they were “verifying the authenticity” before later announcing, “We are currently coordinating individual meeting schedules with the members and will do our best to ensure smooth discussions.”
ADOR intends to hold individual meetings with all three members as soon as possible. However, with Hanni still in Antarctica, the timing of these discussions remains uncertain.
