SBS’s new Wednesday–Thursday romance Dynamite Kiss premiered on November 12th, instantly delivering on the buzz surrounding leads Jang Ki Yong (Gong Ji Hyuk) and Ahn Eun Jin (Go Da Rim). Opening with a literal first-episode kiss, the drama launched into a dopamine-charged romance that exceeded expectations.
Episode 1 scored a strong nationwide 4.5% viewership rating (Nielsen Korea), and with the leads’ chemistry firing up in the back half, anticipation is high for a steady ratings climb.
The episode introduces two characters living radically different lives: Da Rim, an exhausted job seeker who swallows her pride even when her sister sends her to Jeju to keep her away from her own wedding, and Ji Hyuk, a star project manager who trusts everything except love. By coincidence, both end up on Jeju—Ji Hyuk to recruit Kim Jung Gwon (Park Yong Woo), Da Rim to escape family embarrassment.
Complications arise when Jung Gwon turns out to be Da Rim’s ex, the one who once compared her to “boiled spinach.” Determined not to look pathetic, she lies about vacationing with a boyfriend. After an alcohol-fueled misunderstanding that sends her and Ji Hyuk tumbling off a cliff and landing in the hospital, they reunite the next morning—and Da Rim grabs his arm to pose as his real boyfriend in front of her ex. Ji Hyuk, realizing the setup helps his recruitment plan, proposes they act as fake lovers.
He gives Da Rim a Cinderella-level makeover, stunning Jung Gwon. But when the lie seems on the verge of unraveling, Da Rim panics and kisses Ji Hyuk—a moment that shocks them both, especially the love-skeptical Ji Hyuk. Moments later, he pulls her in again with, “Should we do it again? Let’s do that again.”
Ji Hyuk’s narration closes the episode: “That night, we were nitric acid and sulfuric acid, and our kiss was dynamite.”
The premiere captured their messy first meeting and explosive first kiss with lively pacing and energetic direction—perfectly matching the producers’ promise of a rule-breaking, high-dopamine romance. Jang Ki Yong’s charismatic cool and Ahn Eun Jin’s bright, lovable charm elevated the story, with surprise cameos from Lee Seo Jin and Kim Kwang Gyu delivering extra laughs.
Dynamite Kiss continues with Episode 2 on November 13th at 9 PM KST.
