
G-Dragon turned the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit into a global fan event when several heads of state pulled out their phones to film his performance.
Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong shared a clip of G-Dragon’s performance on Instagram on November 1st, writing, “APEC isn’t all policy and trade talks. Korea put up a spectacular gala dinner for everyone, anchored by its APEC ambassador, K-pop star G-Dragon!”

Singaporeans quickly flooded the comments with pleas like “Bring G-Dragon to Singapore!” and “We need a BIGBANG concert here!”
Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also uploaded a 36-second video of G-Dragon singing “Drama,” saying, “Many K-pop fans in Malaysia asked me to share G-Dragon’s performance tonight. I didn’t want to disappoint them, so here’s a glimpse.” The post racked up over 110,000 likes in a single day.

Mexico’s Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard joined in the next day, posting his own front-row clip and joking, “So, how’s this? I got the best seat in the house.” Tagging G-Dragon’s account, he added, “Are you the king of K-pop?” Fans flooded the comments again: “Tell G-Dragon we love him!” and “Bring him to Mexico!”

The Korean superstar was the only K-pop act to perform at the APEC leaders’ gala on October 31st, held at the Lahan Select Hotel in Gyeongju. He performed three songs to mark the occasion. G-Dragon was appointed APEC’s official ambassador in July, and the promotional video he starred in has already surpassed 19 million views on YouTube.
