As fashion magazine W Korea faces intense backlash for its recent “tone-deaf” breast cancer awareness gala, a new report has identified beloved actress Park Bo Young as the star who was allegedly blocked from the same event’s red carpet last year for not wearing stockings.
According to a report from AtStyle, the incident occurred at the 2024 Love Your W event. Park Bo Young was set to wear an outfit from a specific sponsor, but the provided stockings didn’t fit due to a sizing issue. When she arrived with bare legs, organizers reportedly barred her from the main photo wall, stating, “We can’t let you take full-body photos without stockings.” As a result, only cropped, upper-body shots of her were posted online by the magazine.
This story is resurfacing as W Korea is already under fire for its 2025 gala held on October 15th. That event was slammed as a “celebrity bash masquerading as a charity event,” particularly after a performance by Jay Park of his song “Mommae,” which contains lyrics that objectify women’s bodies.
The new revelation about Park Bo Young has been met with fresh outrage online, with many feeling it’s another example of the event prioritizing fashion sponsors over its charitable cause. “W Korea’s power trip is insane,” one netizen wrote. Another commented, “Wow, they did that to someone of Park Bo Young’s status??” A third added, “This just proves the event is for the sponsors, not the campaign. It’s obvious, but still annoying.”
W Korea has not yet released an official statement regarding either the recent gala controversy or this new report involving Park Bo Young.
