Junho is gearing up to bring another wave of success to the small screen with Typhoon Family.
The upcoming tvN weekend drama follows the story of Kang Tae Pung, a rookie company head suddenly thrust into the role of CEO at a trade firm during Korea’s 1997 IMF crisis—with no staff, no money, and nothing left to sell.
Although he never experienced the IMF collapse as an adult, Junho recalls absorbing its atmosphere through his parents. “Both of them worked, and I remember everyone pitching in—from the gold-collecting campaign to nationwide efforts to overcome the crisis,” he said. He hopes today’s audiences will find the drama equally relevant: “This is a story anyone living with an uncertain tomorrow can relate to. I want people to laugh, cry, and feel comforted watching our show.”
Junho describes Tae Pung as an open and transparent character with a wide emotional range. “He’s honest about his feelings, and I tried to portray every shade — joy, anger, sorrow, happiness—all within one drama,” he explained.

To capture the 1997 vibe, Junho put efforts into recreating the ’90s look, from leather jackets, denim-on-denim looks, combat boots, and earrings inspired by what celebrities wore then.
But more than outward appearance, Junho aimed to express Tae Pung’s humanity. “I thought about who we would want by our side in the hardest times. I wanted to play him as a good older brother, a reliable husband or father, even a son. Someone you’d want as your boss or teacher—that’s who I wanted Kang Tae Pung to be.”
Immersing himself in sets designed to faithfully replicate 1997 also helped. “The costumes, hair, makeup, the nightclubs, the TV station; everything was so detailed that I really felt like I had stepped into 1997,” he recalled.
Typhoon Family will premiere on tvN on October 11th at 9:10 PM, taking over the slot from the hit drama Bon Appétit, Your Majesty.
