KBS2’s The First Night with the Duke is on a ratings roll.
The drama has soared to the top of its time slot among terrestrial broadcasters, thanks in part to a steamy scene that had viewers buzzing. Episode 6 recorded a nationwide average viewership rating of 3.3%, according to Nielsen Korea on June 27th.
In the latest episode, Ok Taecyeon’s character Yi Beon comes to the rescue of Seohyun’s character, Cha Seon Chaek, pulling viewers deeper into the suspenseful plot. As the mystery behind Seon Chaek’s strange symptoms unravels, the tension hits a new peak.
Yi Beon investigates the cause of Seon Chaek’s illness, while she competes in the royal selection process and passes with flying colors, only to become the target of a malicious scheme by rival Do Hwa Seon.
Do Hwa Seon spreads false rumors that Seon Chaek had an inappropriate relationship with a commoner, trying to disqualify her. But Yi Beon turns the tide by presenting damning evidence: the mysterious liquid that caused Seon Chaek’s symptoms and a matching pattern on the culprit’s clothes that links him to Dohwa Seon’s household. The final round of the selection is suspended, and Seon Chaek’s name is cleared.
The final scenes tease even more mystery, with Seon Chaek being pushed into a pond, intercut with shots of a college student named “K” sleeping in the real world. As her soul remains trapped in Seon Chaek’s body, viewers are left wondering what’s happening to K’s physical form.
But what really set social media on fire was the flashback to Seon Chaek and Yi Beon’s first night together. Though Seon Chaek doesn’t remember it, Yi Beon recalls the moment with affection, saying: “Even if you wake up and don’t remember tonight, I’ll make you fall in love with me again and again. I’ll even give you my last.” The scene featured Taecyeon shirtless, a passionate kiss and a bed scene with Seohyun, and it had fans hooked.
Reactions online were explosive: “That episode was insane!”, “The ratings are going up and up!”, “So good — can’t wait for the next one!”, “Taecyeon’s an all-rounder. His chemistry with Seohyun is unreal.”
