Genie TV and ENA’s new Monday-Tuesday drama Tastefully Yours is set to premiere on May 12th.
A press conference for Tastefully Yours was held on May 8th at the Stanford Hotel in Sangam. In attendance were actors Kang Ha Neul, Go Min Si, Kim Shin Rok, and Yoo Su Bin, along with creator Han Jun Hee and director Park Dan Hee.
Tastefully Yours is a romantic drama set in a fine dining restaurant called Jeongje in Jeonju. Kang Ha Neul plays Han Beom Woo, a chaebol heir who becomes a “recipe hunter” for the sake of his company’s succession. Go Min Si stars as Mo Yeon Joo, a chef who runs a nameless restaurant in Jeonju.
Kang Ha Neul said, “I’ve played chaebol roles in a few projects before, but this time I tried to bring out the character’s charm in a more entertaining way as described in the script. He looks down on people in the beginning, and I worked on my tone to make that come across more clearly. But it was harder than I expected.”
Go Min Si put a lot of effort into everything from cooking to speaking in dialect for her role. “I chose this project thinking it would be less intense, but it turned out to be the most demanding role I’ve ever done,” she said. “I had to keep learning from real chefs. While filming Tastefully Yours, the Netflix show Culinary Class Wars was very popular, and I was a huge fan. I was deeply impressed by the chefs’ dedication and sincerity, which helped me act with more responsibility. I didn’t model my character after a specific chef, but as a fan of the show, I really wanted to portray a chef well.”
Kim Shin Rok plays Jin Myung Sook, the top chef at Jeonju’s best gukbap restaurant, while Yoo Su Bin plays Shin Chun Seung, the restaurant’s successor. Kim said, “I usually take on strong, leading roles, but this time the ensemble cast was important, so I focused on going with the flow. Since we had to support each other, I leaned on my fellow actors a lot.”
Yoo Su Bin added, “Since my character has lived in Jeonju for a long time, I tried to blend into the area by walking around the neighborhood on my days off. There’s also a scene where I ride a motorcycle, so I practiced for that too.”
Creator Han Jun Hee, known for directing Netflix dramas like D.P. and Weak Hero series, revealed that the story is based on his personal experiences from 15 years ago in Jeonju. “I worked as a staff member at a film festival in Jeonju for about two to three years. Among various tasks, I often visited local eateries, and those experiences inspired a film script. We’ve adapted that into this drama with a fun and modern twist. My previous projects have done well, so there’s pressure, but sometimes things go great, and sometimes the response is underwhelming. Like the characters in the show’s restaurant, this is our job, so we’ll just keep moving forward and doing our best.”
Tastefully Yours premieres at 10 PM on May 12 on ENA.
