Baek Ji Young shared rare insights into her marriage with actor Jung Suk Won during a heartfelt conversation on the variety show Because I’m Solo.
The May 6th episode featured actress Oh Yun Ah catching up with her close friend, Baek Ji Young. Oh, who is raising a son with developmental disabilities, acknowledged that conventional dating isn’t easy for her. “When someone approaches me willing to accept my situation, I feel I should treat them well because their heart is beautiful. It feels special, nice, and I’m grateful,” she shared candidly. She then turned the conversation to Baek, asking, “How do you maintain your marriage? I know you treat your husband well, but don’t you get stressed sometimes?”
Baek responded with wisdom: “It’s never one-sided. It’s always reciprocal. I treat my husband well because he treats me equally well.” She continued with refreshing honesty about her feelings, “I still adore my husband so much. Without those feelings, I can’t force myself to do anything. I think you give as much as you love.”
The singer openly acknowledged marital challenges: “Of course our marriage has had its crises. The truth is, my husband and I have a tremendous capacity to understand and forgive each other in any situation. My husband was the first to embrace and comfort me, which makes me want to embrace him even more.”
She added with conviction, “We share a bond like war comrades. He fights alongside me against whatever I’m fighting. I don’t want to lose my person. I’ve often said, ‘I’ve never considered divorce.’ I live thinking that divorcing this person is not in my dictionary. He wouldn’t survive without me, so divorce isn’t an option.”
When Oh praised Jung, saying, “Your husband is amazing. I was surprised by how pure-hearted he is. He plays so well with Min (Oh’s son). He really adjusts to Min’s level when playing with him,” Baek humorously replied, “That’s because their mental ages are pretty much the same. He’s not just playing with him—he genuinely enjoys it,” drawing laughter.
Baek Ji Young married Jung Suk Won in 2013, and they have one daughter together. During their marriage in 2018, Jung was sentenced to 10 months in prison suspended for two years on drug charges. After a long hiatus, he made his comeback last year in the play Would You Marry Me?
