As Kim Soo Hyun faces allegations of dating the late Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor, new claims suggest the actor was actually in a relationship with another actress for approximately three years starting in 2017.
According to Money Today on the 27th, Kim Soo Hyun reportedly dated actress A, a former idol, for about three years between 2016 and 2019. Kim Soo Hyun and A allegedly built their relationship as colleagues at the same agency, with the report claiming they split in spring 2019, about three months before Kim Soo Hyun completed his military service. The actor enlisted in October 2017 and was discharged in July 2019.
One industry insider told the outlet, “Kim Soo Hyun’s relationship with actress A was an open secret, so it’s unlikely he was simultaneously dating Kim Sae Ron. I recall there were several dating rumors between Kim Soo Hyun and A,” adding, “I also heard that Kim Soo Hyun frequently sent letters to A while in service.”
Another source stated, “While the exact timeline of when they started dating is unclear, it’s certain they were together during his military service from 2017 to 2019. Kim Soo Hyun’s relationship with Kim Sae Ron only lasted a year.” The source added, “Kim Sae Ron had long admired Kim Soo Hyun, and my understanding is that they began seeing each other after she became an adult.”
The report then claimed Kim Sae Ron was known to have dated different men in 2016, 2018, and 2021, including rapper WOODZ and a former national team athlete.
Meanwhile, Kim Sae Ron’s family has been claiming through the YouTube channel “HoverLab” since last month that “Kim Sae Ron and Kim Soo Hyun were in a romantic relationship for six years, starting in 2016 when she was only 15 years old.” As evidence, they’ve released handwritten letters allegedly sent by Kim Soo Hyun to Kim Sae Ron during his military service, as well as photos showing Kim Soo Hyun kissing Kim Sae Ron on the cheek.
The problem is that interpretations of the timeline for these “evidence” (photos, messages, videos, etc.) conflict with each other, and scientific analyses have sample limitations that prevent them from being conclusive. As a result, public opinion remains sharply divided on the matter. The release of Kim Soo Hyun’s upcoming Disney Plus series Knock-Off, originally scheduled for April 2025, has been put on hold.
