Months after the sudden passing of Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, her husband Koo Jun Yup, aka DJ Koo, is still deep in mourning, visiting her gravesite every day.

On April 16th, Taiwanese outlet ETtoday published an interview with singer-actress Bing-Bing Pai, who shared updates on Hsu’s grieving mother. Pai said she recently spoke with Hsu’s mother ahead of Taiwan’s upcoming Mother’s Day and reflected on the pain of losing a child.

“I spoke with Barbie’s mother just two days ago,” Pai shared. “She asked how I coped, and I told her it took me 20 years of tears. I also told her to reach out anytime if her grief becomes too much.”

Pai said she also asked how DJ Koo was holding up. “She told me he goes to Chinpaosan Cemetery every day, and it breaks her heart,” she said. “She added that Koo and Barbie’s sister Dee are still deeply grieving, but actually, I’m most worried about her (the mother).”

“Younger people can slowly find comfort through work or routine,” Pai continued, “but older people tend to dwell when there’s nothing to distract them. I had support from friends, and I want to be there for her, too.”

Barbie Hsu passed away on February 2nd at a hospital in Tokyo, after developing pneumonia from the flu while on a family trip. DJ Koo and the family held a private funeral on March 15th at Chinpaosan cemetery, where he was seen tearfully carrying her ashes in the rain. Since then, he has withdrawn from public life and reportedly lost about 12 kilograms due to emotional strain.

He is currently working with a friend to create a memorial statue for Hsu. Reports say he plans to stay in Taiwan until it is completed before returning to Seoul to reunite with his family.
