A growing number of Korean stars are stepping up to help communities impacted by the recent wildfires that swept through South Korea’s Yeongnam region.
Leading the philanthropic wave is IU, who donated 200 million KRW (approximately 137,000 USD) to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association. Her contribution will go toward both wildfire recovery and improving working conditions for firefighters. “I hope this can be of some help to those affected,” IU said, offering condolences to the victims and thanks to the firefighters working on the ground.
Suzy followed with a 100 million KRW donation. Her agency stated, “She hopes the fires are brought under control quickly and that residents can return to normal life.” The actress has now donated a total of 600 million KRW through Hope Bridge to date.
Park Bo Young contributed 50 million KRW to support firefighters. “She deeply respects the sacrifices firefighters make in disaster zones and wanted to help improve their working conditions,” her agency explained. Go Min Si also donated the same amount, saying she felt a heavy heart as she watched the damage escalate. “I hope more people join in and help,” she added.
Other celebrities who have contributed to the wildfire recovery effort include Haechan of NCT, Kim Na Young, and Yoo Jae Suk, each donating 50 million KRW; trot singers Lee Chan Won and Jang Min Ho, who gave 100 million KRW each; Chun Woo Hee with 40 million KRW; Yim Si Wan with 30 million KRW; and Kim Jinwoo of WINNER and lyricist Kim Eana, both donating 10 million KRW.
